Believe it or not, this is my uncle. His name is Raymond Page and he is still alive and well in Anaheim, CA. He and my father were newsies in the late 1920s and 1930s. My grandfather was a newspaper circulation manager in Los Angeles. I've always loved this image and the concept of the ultimate hustler shouting from the street corner selling a product. It has occurred to me that what we do as graphic designers is much the same. We design messages that are put on paper. If we do our jobs well, our client's message screams from the paper. I first drew the Page Man, as we call him in the studio, when I was in college. He has gone through many changes over the years, as has our industry. However, the concept remains the same: Our job is to convey, through graphics, our client's message. Paul |
